Published quarterly, The American Journal of Preventive Cardiology is the official journal the American Society for Preventive Cardiology . It publishes articles in the areas of prevention research, teaching, practice and policy. Original research and reviews are published on epidemiology and clinical studies on risk factors, behavioral and pharmacologic interventions aimed at the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases and related conditions, as well as the promotion of individual and community cardiovascular health.
The journal publishes both original research and review papers that address the key aspects of preventive cardiology, including the primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease and related conditions including both behavioral (e.g., smoking, obesity, diet, and physical activity) and clinical (e.g., dyslipidemia, hypertension, and diabetes) aspects. Papers also address educational and other initiatives and methods aimed at improving the ability of cardiologists and healthcare professionals to provide effective clinical prevention and public health services. The journal also publishes guidelines and official policy statements from the Society, review articles, media reviews, and editorials. Finally, the journal periodically publishes special theme issues devoted to areas of current interest to the cardiac prevention community. Also included are editorials, readers' comments, and abstracts from the annual ASPC scientific sessions.

The American Society for Preventive Cardiology (ASPC) invites applications for the position of Editor-in-Chief for The American Journal of Preventive Cardiology (AJPC). This is a unique opportunity to lead the strategic direction of a rapidly growing journal dedicated to advancing the field of preventive cardiology.
Position Overview
As Editor-in-Chief, you will play a key role in shaping the journal’s future, overseeing the editorial team, and ensuring the publication of high-quality research. You will collaborate closely with the ASPC and journal management to enhance the AJPC’s mission and drive its continued growth as a leading resource in preventive cardiology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate efforts of the Editorial Team, including Associate Editors and Board Members
- Work with journal management to align strategy with the Journal's mission
- Evaluate submissions for publication suitability
- Oversee and support the peer review process
- Regularly communicate with ASPC leadership on Journal performance and strategy
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have a passion for preventive cardiology and publication excellence. Key qualifications include:
- Expertise in preventive cardiology
- Experience in an editorial role (editorial board member, associate, or deputy editor)
- Proven track record of publishing and reviewing for high-quality journals
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills
- A clear, forward-looking vision for the Journal
- Extensive national/international network within preventive cardiology
Candidate Profile
- Internationally recognized expertise in preventive cardiology
- Academic background in cardiology with significant scholarly contributions
- Minimum of three years in a senior editorial role for a peer-reviewed journal
- Vision for growing the Journal’s impact and navigating the evolving scientific publishing landscape
- ASPC membership required at the time of application
- Adherence to ASPC’s Conflict of Interest and Financial Disclosure policies
